Use the checkbox at the top-left of a scene card. You can select several scenes at once.
A practical guide to scenes, groups, narrative order, automatic arrangement, and sentence editing in StoryMynd.
The scene board uses numbered horizontal rows that start with two slots for standalone cards and can extend when you append more. Groups occupy a complete row. Project scene order and Next choices continue to control the narrative flow.
Use the checkbox at the top-left of a scene card. You can select several scenes at once.
Drag an ungrouped scene with its grip. Within a row, the red Insert marker previews its new order. Between rows, a scene fills an open slot or appends after the last card in a full target row. Drag it over an expanded group to insert it at the red Add to group marker.
Use the row’s bookmark, collapse, plus, and three-dot controls to manage it directly. The menu also lets you label, insert, delete, or complete a row.
Moving or grouping cards does not rewrite narration or change the underlying scene sequence.
Scene flow is managed with the Next menu on each card. The canvas does not draw connector lines, so moving scenes into groups keeps the workspace clear.
Use the Next menu on a scene card and select the scene that should follow.
Choose None when the current scene should not continue to another scene.
Right-click empty artboard space and choose Repair scene flow to reset every Next choice and grouped card order to the project scene order.
Grouping and moving cards does not add lines, ports, or arrowheads to the canvas.
Groups are visual containers for scenes that cover the same topic, chapter, sequence, or production task. Scenes are laid out horizontally inside the group.
Tick the checkbox on every scene that belongs in the new group.
The action appears in the artboard toolbar when one or more cards are selected.
The new group and ungrouped cards are automatically laid out together.
It changes how scenes are organized visually. Existing Next choices remain intact.
You do not need to recreate a group when its topic grows. Use the row plus to create a new scene there, or select existing scenes and send them to the group.
Tick its checkbox. You can select multiple scenes from different parts of the artboard.
In that group’s header, click Add selected.
The scene moves into the group and the full canvas automatically rearranges.
A group occupies one full row. Use its row menu for row-level actions and each card for scene editing.
| Action | How it works |
|---|---|
| Rename | Click the group title, enter the new topic or section name, then save. |
| Move | Drag the grip icon in the group header to another row. Every scene inside moves with it. |
| Keyboard move | Focus the group grip and use Up or Down to move one row. Hold Shift to move two rows. |
| Collapse | Select the row chevron to replace its cards or group frame with a compact summary. Select it again to restore the row. |
| Reorder scenes | Drag a grouped scene horizontally and release at the red Insert in group marker, or use its menu to move it left or right. |
| Move a scene out | Drag a grouped scene vertically to another numbered row and release at the red Move to row marker. Up or Down on its focused grip also moves it out. |
| Add a new scene | Select the plus on the group row. The new scene is created directly inside that group. |
| Ungroup | Choose Ungroup row from the row menu to release all its scenes while preserving narrative order. |
Precise group movement: focus the grip icon and press Up or Down to move one row. Hold Shift to skip two rows.
Sentence changes use an explicit apply action, so clicking away does not silently replace the saved narration.
Right-click a sentence and choose Edit sentence.
Make the required wording, spelling, or narration changes in the dialog.
The sentence updates once and the dialog closes immediately to confirm the action.
Closing the dialog without Apply Text leaves the existing sentence unchanged.
Numbered row rails keep large projects predictable. Automatic arrangement handles group membership changes, while row menus manage space, progress, and return points without moving every later card by hand.
Open the row’s three-dot menu and choose Insert row above or Insert row below. The plus always adds a scene. If its row is full, the new scene starts on the next available row.
Open the row’s three-dot menu and choose Delete row. Empty rows are removed immediately. For a populated row, confirm that you want to permanently delete every scene in it. A project must keep at least one scene, and the final add-scene row always remains available.
Select the bookmark icon beside the row number. The icon fills red while active, and the bookmark button in the floating toolbar returns to that row later. Mark finished rows complete to give them a green progress treatment.
Select the downward chevron beside the row number. The row’s scene cards or group frame are replaced by a compact summary. Select the right chevron to expand the row.
Open the row’s three-dot menu, enter a Row label, and select Save label. The label appears on the row’s upper border and stays with that row’s scenes when the board is rearranged.
Select Return to row start in the floating toolbar. Your current vertical position is preserved.
Drag the scene into the gap between the cards and release when the red Insert marker appears. Inside an expanded group, use the red Insert in group marker. Nearby cards preview their new order before you release. Outside groups, dropping into a full row appends the scene after its last card and extends that row horizontally.
Right-click empty board space and choose Snap legacy layout to grid. It aligns positions without changing card order or group membership.
Scene order is shown and edited in each card’s Next menu, without visual connector lines.
Right-click empty artboard space and choose Repair scene flow. This resets the flow to project scene order and may split interrupted groups into continued sections.
No. Arrangement changes canvas coordinates only. Scene order, narration, and Next choices remain intact.
A scene can belong to one group at a time. Add selected moves it to the destination group.
Drag the scene vertically out of the group. Release when Move to row appears in the destination row. Horizontal dragging still reorders the scene inside its group, while Up or Down on the focused scene grip moves it to the adjacent standalone row.
Choose Ungroup row from the group row’s three-dot menu to release all its scenes together.
